ETSI : LTE Terrestrial Radio Access Network technology specifications have been approved by 3GPP

LTE Terrestrial Radio Access Network technology specifications have been approved by 3GPP * and are now under change control, leading to their inclusion in the forthcoming 3GPP Release 8.

3GPP LTE, an evolution of the GSM/UMTS family, specifies the next generation mobile broadband access system, which utilizes state-of-the-art Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) technology. 3GPP LTE provides downlink peak data rates of up to 300 Mbps with very low latency using advanced antenna techniques such as Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO).

3GPP LTE is capable of operating globally in a wide range of bandwidths from 1.4 - 20 MHz, using both Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) and Time Division Duplex (TDD) modes of operation - hence offering the flexibility to suit any operator's existing or future frequency allocation globally.

3GPP LTE radio technology is optimized to enhance networks by enabling significant new high capacity mobile broadband applications and services, whilst providing cost efficient ubiquitous mobile coverage.

* 3GPP is a collaboration of telecommunications Standards bodies. The Organizational Partners are ARIB, CCSA, ETSI, ATIS, TTA, and TTC. Details about the work of The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) are available at www.3gpp.org
