Anritsu joins NGMN Alliance
Anritsu is the first test solutions vendor to be granted membership to this key industry alliance. Anritsu's technology experts will help the NGMN Alliance devise strategies for maximising the availability and service quality of the new mobile network technologies adopted by its members.
The NGMN Alliance was founded in 2006 by leading network operators to develop a coherent vision for the mobile industry's evolution towards next-generation mobile broadband networks. NGMN’s primary objective is to create a virtuous cycle of investment, innovation, and adoption of mobile broadband services with competitive price-performance ratios. NGMN supports and complements the work of existing standards development organisations by establishing clear performance targets, fundamental recommendations, functional requirements, and deployment scenarios.
The accomplishments of NGMN in 2007 include agreement on a new IPR regime, clarifying the spectrum requirements for the next generation of mobile networks, initiation of trials for various candidate technologies, and continued contributions to standards development organisations. The 2008 roadmap of the NGMN Alliance emphasises the need for the finalisation of the relevant standards, focuses on developing the required elements of the ecosystem and on getting results from technology evaluation studies and validation trials.
About the NGMN Alliance
NGMN Ltd. (www.ngmn.org), an open alliance, was founded by leading international network operators representing more than half of all mobile phone users worldwide. The NGMN Alliance currently comprises 40 partners, i.e. 14 network operators (Members), 24 vendors (Sponsors) and 2 research institutions (Advisors).
Key objectives of NGMN are to ensure the technical feasibility through the coordination of technology trials as well as through providing input to standards development organisations. Strong emphasis is also laid on the timely delivery of end user devices. With a focus on practicality, NGMN has specified an evolutionary path in order to develop a cost-effective platform for creating innovative services, enhanced customer experience, and competitive broadband performance alongside high levels of interoperability.
NGMN White Papers on common operator requirements and on spectrum requirements for the next generation of mobile broadband networks and services can be downloaded from the NGNM website.
